Handloom Expo from Rural India to be Held Till July 12

July 05, 2015 JP NAGAR: An exhibition of handlooms and handicrafts from rural India is being organised at Shilpa Kala Mantapa in JP Nagar till June 12.

Organised by Krishna Khadi Gramodyog Sansthan, the exhibition will have on offer a variety of sarees, furniture, bedsheets, handloom prints, cotton dress materials and leather products.

The organisation hopes to provide a market for the traditional artisans by showcasing their works at the exhibition. Through such events, more than 10,000 artisan families benefit every year, says Sanjay Kumar Gupta, secretary Krishna Khadi Gramodyog Sansthan.

The exhibition will see Moonga silk and Ken bamboo gift items from Assam; Uppada, Gadwal, Pochampally silk sarees and dress materials from Andhra Pradesh; Kantha silk sarees, Shanti Niketan sarees, Neemzari, Baluchari silk sarees, Kolkata leather bags and jute bags from West Bangal; Phulkari dress materials and sarees from Punjab; Tabi, Chinan silk sarees, embroidery cotton suits from Jammu and Kashmir; Hubli, ilkal and Bangalore silk sarees from Karnataka; Bhagalpuri pure tussar and Matka silk sarees from Bihar; Bandhej Gajji silk sarees, embroidered dress materials and sarees, Bandhani silk suits, sarees and dupattas from Gujarat, Jamdani, Jamavar, Tanchoi, Banarasi silk sarees, wrought iron and wooden furniture, Bhadaoi silk and woollen carpet from Uttar Pradesh; Jaipuri kurtis and imitation jewellery and Maheswari silk and cotton sarees and dress fabrics from Madhya Pradesh.

Patachitra paintings from Odisha and bedsheets from Jaipur will be major attractions at the exhibition.

Cotton dress materials, crepe silk sarees and suits with Lucknow chikan work will be available at the venue. Buyers can also choose from a range of colourful designer tops by Madhurima Goswami from Kolkata.
