Better Cotton Initiative Rebrands to BCI Cotton and Launches New Product Label

October 10, 2025 The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) has rebranded to BCI Cotton and introduced a new label for the fashion and textile sector.

Launched to coincide with World Cotton Day, the new label will allow brands and retailers to clearly display that their products contain physical BCI Cotton, which is certified by a third-party body and traced from its country of origin. The label will hit stores over the coming months.

“In a time of increasing scrutiny around sustainability claims, global trade pressures, and shifting environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities, transparency and accountability are more critical than ever,” said Nick Weatherill, CEO, BCI Cotton. “As we celebrate World Cotton Day, our new label reaffirms our commitment to both, as part of our mission to drive measurable impact and continuous improvement in sustainability across the cotton sector.”
Along with the label, BCI Cotton’s rebrand is designed to bring greater clarity to its institutional identity and the cotton it sources. The new label and branding come as the organization releases its 2024-2025 annual report, highlighting more than 15 years of work to drive environmental, social and economic improvements in cotton farming.

Among those highlights, BCI Cotton reported that it has helped improve incomes for more than 650,000 licensed farmers worldwide and trained more than 575,000 female farmers and workers as part of capacity strengthening activities. The organization also has helped reduce synthetic nitrogen use per kilogram of cotton produced across 2.15 million hectares of land, supporting some 700,000 farmers.

BCI Cotton also has pushed for pesticide reduction efforts, such as eliminating highly hazardous pesticide use among 81 percent of licensed farmers and reducing the volume of synthetic pesticides applied per hectare for more than 788,000 licensed farmers.

Those gains have come through a number of recent measures by BCI Cotton, including initiating a two-year pilot program in Côte d’Ivoire this year to help cotton industry workers get access to quality healthcare through a digital platform operated by global health enterprise Elucid. And last fall, the organization signed off on a strategic roadmap created to accelerate sustainable cotton production in Uzbekistan.

“These results represent real change in cotton farming communities around the world,” Weatherwill said. “Both our new label and annual report are more than updates—they are evidence of our steadfast determination to catalyze and scale sustainable practices in cotton production. We are proud of our progress but also recognize there is much more to do. Time is of the essence, and with our multi-stakeholder membership and network of field-level partners, I’m confident we will rise to the challenge.”
